How to Disable or Enable the Startup Sound in Windows 7 or Windows 8

At first, you might like the startup/login sound used by Windows but, after a while it gets boring or just annoying. At some point you will want to disable it. Here’s how to do it, both in Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Step 1: Open the Control Panel

Open Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sound.

In the Sound section, click or tap "Change system sounds".

The Sound window is now opened and here you will find the setting you need to change.

Step 2: Disable the Windows Startup Sound

Double check that you are in the Soundtab of the Sound window. There, uncheck the option which says: "Play Windows Startup sound".
